About
I grew up in suburbs of Northern Virginia, in a household where authors were viewed as folk heroes. When I was a small child, my mother brought me along to her master-level writing classes at George Mason University, where I sat in on lectures by John Irving, John Gardner and Susan Shreve. As I grew up, I fell in love with literature, especially the works of Kurt Vonnegut, Thornton Wilder, John Steinbeck, J.R.R. Tolkien and Stephen King. When I wasn’t sitting the feet of these literary Jedi, I spent every waking minute playing Dungeons & Dragons, watching Star Trek, and trying to work up the nerve to call the pretty girl down the street.
My first published fiction was the critically acclaimed short story Isolation Ward 4, set in the Star Trek universe. After writing several other Star Trek stories for Pocket Books, I took the plunge into indie publishing with Legendarium, co-written with the well-known Michael Bunker. Rumor has it that there will be a Legendarium 2 someday, but I wouldn’t hold your breath, unless you can hold it until maybe Winter 2018. My recent works include THE MAN WHO SHOT JOHN WILKES BOOTH and THE BLEAK DECEMBER.
I live on a working dairy farm in Amissville, Virginia, in a farmhouse that was built in 1910. I never did call the pretty girl down the street, but I found a beautiful woman and married her, and we have three children that read a lot and love Star Trek.
